A dust collector is a system used to enhance the quality of air released from industrial and commercial processes by collecting dust and other impurities from air or gas. Designed to handle high-volume dust loads, a dust collector system consists of a blower, dust filter, a filter-cleaning system, and a dust receptacle or dust removal system.
An estimated 45 interstellar dust impacts were also found on the sample collector, which resided on the back side of the cometary dust collector. Dust grains are being observed and analyzed by a volunteer team through the citizen science project, Stardust@Home. The combined mass of the harvested sample was approximately 1 mg. [48]
The first launch of the Delta IV Heavy on 21 December 2004 carried a boilerplate payload and was a partial failure. Cavitation in the liquid-oxygen propellant lines caused shutdown of both boosters eight seconds early, and the core engine nine seconds early; this resulted in a lower staging velocity for which the second stage was unable to compensate.
The HEOS 2 dust detector [61] was the first detector that employed a hemispherical geometry, like all the subsequent detectors of the Galileo and Ulysses spacecraft, and the LDEX detectors on the LADEE mission. The hemispherical target of 0.01 m 2 area collected electrons from the impact and the ions were collected by the central ion collector ...
This is a list of launches made by the PGM-17 Thor IRBM, and its derivatives, including the Delta family and the Japanese N-I, N-II and H-I rockets which were based on license-produced components. Due to the number of launches, it has been split by decade: List of Thor and Delta launches (1957–1959) List of Thor and Delta launches (1960–1969)
The Delta M had a three-stage configuration. The first stage was the Long Tank Thor, a stretched version of the Thor missile, previously flown on the Delta L. Three Castor-2 solid rocket boosters were attached to the first stage to increase thrust at lift-off. A Delta E was used as the second stage, and the third stage was a Star-37D solid ...
