Farrer Hall is the second oldest of the residential colleges of Monash University, located in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is home to 200 residents, a third of which are usually first year students. The hall is divided into two sections: Commons and Lords.
[citation needed] At its peak enrolment in 2007, the campus was home to 2,000 on-campus students, 5,000 off-campus students and nearly 400 staff. [citation needed] The campus was located in the Latrobe Valley town of Churchill. Until 2014 it was the only non-metropolitan campus of Monash University. [citation needed]
The campus covers an area of 55 ha (140 acres). A student accommodation building was completed in 2006 to stabilise the demand generated by both local and international students. [citation needed] The campus opened in 1996 as a campus of Monash University. In 2018, it became a campus of Federation University.
By point of comparison, the colleges at the Australian National University provide a mix of the above and a singular focus on the provision of accommodation and Monash University provides a college experience, but mostly without any academic support, the exception is the affiliated Mannix College.
