A gentleman recently donated a 2002 Ford F-150 to my automotive program. The truck has a 4.6L V8, and it has a ticking noise that is quite loud at the front right side of the engine. I am thinking that it is a timing chain issue, since the noise seems to be at crankshaft speed, not camshaft speed. I have read some bulletins about cooling system ...

I had a mercury mountaineer with the 4.6. it barely used oil but it made a huge mess on the front of the engine and all over the cross member below it. you might want to take some degreaser and wash oil off really good and then check it every day and see where it gets wet.
