The Meigs Local School District is a public school district based in Pomeroy, Ohio, United States. The school district includes all of Rutland, Salem, Salisbury, Scipio as well as most of Bedford Township, and a very small portion of Chester Township. Three incorporated villages are served by Meigs Local Schools: Pomeroy, Middleport, and Rutland.
Meigs School opened as a grammar school in the fall of 1883 on Georgia Street and could accommodate 600 students. Robert S. White, a Black man with three years teaching experience, served as Meigs' first principal. Enrollment at Meigs in the 1883-1884 school year totaled 397 primary and intermediate pupils. Four teachers assisted the principal. [4]
In 2002, ideas for a new center arose and were discussed between university officials, Meigs county commissioners, and Meigs local school officials. Groundbreaking began in 2007 and the new building was completed in 2008.
The Ohio Division features the larger schools, including Meigs, and the Hocking Division features the smaller schools. Meigs High School is the only high school within a 100-mile radius to have random drug testing. In its first year of participation as the Marauders, Meigs won the SEOAL Football Championship with a 9-1 record.

Southern High School is a public high school in Racine, (Meigs County), Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Southern Local School District. Their mascot is the Tornado, and their official school colors are Purple and Gold.

Cornelia Bowen (1865–1934) was an African American teacher and school founder from Alabama. She was in the first graduating class of the Tuskegee Institute and went on to found the Mount Meigs Colored Institute as well as the Mt. Meigs Negro Boys' Reformatory.
