Many years later on 21 May 1992, the school was elevated into a college and renamed Jose P. Laurel Polytechnic College through the Republic Act No. 7518. As authorized by Republic Act No. 9045, it was eventually integrated to Batangas State University as its satellite campus on 22 March 2001. [5] [6] [7]
The University of Batangas was originally established as the Western Philippine Colleges in 1946 [3] by Vicente R. Catapang, Jesus Lorenzo Arguelles, Juan Y. Javier, Roman L. Perez, Francisco G. Perez, and Pablo C. Umali. The first school was located in a small rental home opposite to Batangas Trade School (now Batangas State University).
In May 2007, Republic Act 9472 was ratified, excluding the PUP Santo Tomas Campus from the coverage of the Batangas State University. [4] To this date the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Santo Tomas is still part of the PUP System and students enjoys the 12 pesos per unit tuition fee. [citation needed]
