Ecclesiastes 11 is the eleventh chapter of the Book of Ecclesiastes in the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The book contains philosophical speeches by a character called '(the) Qoheleth' ("the Teacher"), composed probably between the 5th and 2nd centuries BCE. [ 3 ]
According to the majority understanding today, [8] the word is a more general (mishkal, מִשְׁקָל) form rather than a literal participle, and the intended meaning of Kohelet in the text is "someone speaking before an assembly," hence "Teacher" or "Preacher." This was the position of the Midrash [10] and of Jerome. [11]
