ABC's Wide World of Entertainment is a late night television block of programs created by the ABC television network. It premiered on January 8, 1973, and ended three years later. [ 1 ] The title was based on the long-running broadcast ABC's Wide World of Sports ; there was also an ABC's Wide World of Mystery broadcast from 1973 to 1978.
ABC's Wide World of Sports is an American sports anthology television program that aired on ABC from April 29, 1961, to 1997, primarily on Saturday afternoons. Hosted by Jim McKay, with a succession of co-hosts beginning in 1987, the title continued to be used for general sports programs on the network until 2006.
In January 1973, both The Dick Cavett Show and In Concert became part of ABC's Wide World of Entertainment programming block. [4] Kirshner left in late 1973 to produce the syndicated series Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. In Concert continued to appear approximately every other Friday night until it left the ABC schedule on April 25, 1975.
