Muhammadu Sanusi II, CON (Ajami: محمد السنوسي, Muhammadu Sanusi na biyu (Listen ⓘ); born 31 July 1961), [1] known by the religious title Khalifa Sanusi II (Ajami: خليفة السنوسي), is the spiritual leader of the Tijanniyah Sufi order in Nigeria and the emir of the ancient city-state of Kano. [2]
A bitter succession struggle over who'd succeed him emerged within the royal family between the Bayero and Sanusi houses. [14] His eldest son and heir, Sanusi Ado Bayero was considered the natural successor and initial reports announced him as Emir. [15] On 8 June 2014, his grand nephew Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was crowned Emir of Kano. [16]
Sanusi Ado received his primary education at the Rano Boarding Primary School from 1963 to 1969. He attended Rumfa College in Kano from 1969 to 1973, before later attending Government College, Birnin Kudu, one of the oldest prestigious government colleges in Northern Nigeria from 1973 to 1975, where he was the head boy.
