Arab world. The Arab world consists of 22 countries [citation needed] located in Western Asia, Northern Africa, the Maghreb, the Horn of Africa, and the Indian Ocean. It covers a combined area of 13 million km 2. It extends from Morocco in the west, southward to the Comoros, eastward to Somalia, and northward to Iraq.
The Arab world straddles two continents, Africa and Asia. It is mainly oriented along an east–west axis. It was founded in Cairo in March 1945 with seven members: the Kingdom of Egypt, Kingdom of Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Republic, Transjordan (Jordan from 1949), and North Yemen (later becoming Yemen).
