Hadestown is a musical with music, lyrics, and book by Anaïs Mitchell.It tells a version of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice, a young girl looking for something to eat, goes to work in a hellish industrial version of the Greek underworld to escape poverty and the cold, and her poor singer-songwriter lover Orpheus comes to rescue her.
Hadestown is the fourth studio album by American folk singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, and was released by Righteous Babe Records on March 9, 2010. The concept album, which became the basis for the stage musical of the same name, follows a variation on the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, where Orpheus must embark on a quest to rescue his wife Eurydice from the underworld.
Hadestown: Live from London is the cast album of the 2024 West End production at the Lyric Theatre, London. It was released digitally, on CD , and on vinyl record on December 6, 2024. The majority of tracks were recorded at the final performance of Grace Hodgett Young and Dónal Finn on August 25, 2024.

In 2006, Mitchell debuted a draft of her "folk opera" Hadestown, which she wrote in collaboration with arranger Michael Chorney and director Ben T. Matchstick. [18] A revised version of Hadestown was staged in 2007. Her third album, The Brightness, was released that same year on Righteous Babe Records. [19]
Hadestown was the most awarded show of the season, with eight including Best Musical. The Ferryman won four awards, including Best Play . Musicals The Cher Show and Tootsie , the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein 's Oklahoma! , and the new play Ink each won two awards.
