The new city, RAZMIC (Ras Al Zour Mineral Industrial City), is planned to exploit the mineral deposites of phosphate and bauxite found within Saudi Arabia. [2] Therefore, a di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) plant will be built, an aluminium smelter, an aluminium rolling mill, an ammonia plant, an alumina refinery and facilities to produce phosphoric and sulphuric acid.
The mission of the RCJY is to: "Plan, promote, develop and manage Petrochemicals and Energy intensive industrial cities through successful customer focus and partnerships with investors, employees, communities and other stakeholders." These industrial cities are Jubail, Yanbu, Ras Al-Khair and the newest project Jazan. [3]
When complete, the facility is estimated to increase the gross domestic product of Saudi Arabia by $17 billion, while decreasing the country's imports by $12 billion and supporting 80,000 jobs nationally. The operation on the 1,392 kilometres (865 mi) long freight part of the project connecting Al-Haditha and Jalamid with the new port city Ras Al-Khair was started in Jan 2015. [ 3 ] An 85 km link is planned which would connect the North–South railway with the port at Jubail .
The Ras Al-Khair Power and Desalination Plant is a power and desalination plant located in Ras Al-Khair on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia. It is operated by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation of Saudi Arabia. The plant began operating in April 2014 and, as of January 2017, is the world's largest hybrid water desalination plant.
