He was born on June 15, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, to Martha Jane Gelin Langford (1924–2015) and Gerald J. Langford (1918–1997).They relocated to San Diego, where he went to Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in nearby El Cajon, and University of San Diego High School, graduating in 1969. [2]
In 1998, Joan Kroc donated $87 million (equivalent to $163 million in 2023) to the Salvation Army to build and endow the first Kroc Center in San Diego, California, on what was an abandoned grocery store and other empty land.
