The Allen Temple AME Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, US, is the mother church of the Third Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Allen Temple A.M.E. Church is a historic church at 109 Green Avenue at the junction with S. Markley Street in Greenville, South Carolina. [2] [3] It was built in 1929 in a Classical Revival style and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. [1]

The AME Church was founded by Richard Allen (1760–1831) in 1816 when he called together five African American congregations of the previously established Methodist Episcopal Church with the hope of escaping the discrimination that was commonplace in society, including some churches. [7]
