On March 26, 2013, Oracle announced refreshed SPARC servers based on the new SPARC T5 microprocessor, which the company claims is "the world's fastest". [ 12 ] [ 13 ] [ 14 ] In the T5 range of servers, the single socket rackmount server design was deprecated, while a new eight-socket rackmount server was introduced.
The SPARC T4 is a SPARC multicore microprocessor introduced in 2011 by Oracle Corporation. The processor is designed to offer high multithreaded performance (8 threads per core, with 8 cores per chip), as well as high single threaded performance from the same chip. [1] The chip is the 4th generation [2] processor in the T-Series family.
The processor uses the same SPARC S3 core design as its predecessor, the SPARC T4 processor, but is implemented in a 28 nm process and runs at 3.6 GHz. [5] The S3 core is a dual-issue core that uses dynamic threading and out-of-order execution, [6] incorporates one floating point unit, one dedicated cryptographic unit per core. [7]
Fujitsu will also discontinue their SPARC production (has already shifted to producing their own ARM-based CPUs), after two "enhanced" versions of Fujitsu's older SPARC M12 server in 2020–22 (formerly planned for 2021) and again in 2026–27, end-of-sale in 2029, of UNIX servers and a year later for their mainframe and end-of-support in 2034 ...
The Sun Fire T2000 server (code named Ontario) is a system engineered by Sun Microsystems for applications including Web 2.0 and databasing. [1] Part of the Sun Fire line, the T2000 was among the first servers to leverage Sun's CoolThreads processing technology, which improves the energy-efficiency of systems.
Oracle Solaris is a proprietary Unix operating system offered by Oracle for SPARC and x86-64 based workstations and servers.Originally developed by Sun Microsystems as Solaris, it superseded the company's earlier SunOS in 1993 and became known for its scalability, especially on SPARC systems, and for originating many innovative features such as DTrace, ZFS and Time Slider.
After Oracle's acquisition of Sun ... 2009, OpenSolaris 2009.06 was released, with support for the SPARC platform. ... SunSpectrum End of Service Life (SS-EOSL) ...
The Sun Fire X4500 data server (code named Thumper) integrates server and storage technologies. It was announced in July, 2006 [1] and is part of the Sun Fire server line from Sun Microsystems.
