Sovah Health – Danville, previously known as Danville Regional Medical Center is a 250-bed hospital located in Danville, Virginia, US. It was formerly known as The Memorial Hospital and changed its name in 1993, [1] before being purchased by Lifepoint Hospitals in July 2005. [2] The hospital is certified by the Joint Commission. [3]
Following Dr. McDowell's successful surgery, Danville became home to a number of physicians. This led to the formation of a community hospital in 1887. Through the years, the hospital expanded often. It marked its centennial in 1987 by changing its name to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. [2]
Geisinger was named after iron magnate George Geisinger by his widow, Abigail Geisinger. The George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital was founded in Danville in 1915 and later became Geisinger Medical Center.
