The state park covers 76 acres (31 ha) on the shore of Lake Huron three miles (4.8 km) north of Harrisville in Alcona County, Michigan. In addition to the lighthouse and associated museum, the park features a long and shallow reef that juts into Lake Huron and extends for almost a full mile.
Shady Lake is located in central western Arkansas, on the southern fringe of Ouachita National Forest, about 30 miles (48 km) west of Glenwood.The lake itself is roughly crescent-shaped and was created in 1935 with the assistance of enrollees from the CCC, particularly by members from Company 742 stationed at Camp F-4 (situated within the community of Shady).
Lake Michigan connected to Lake Huron by the Mackinac strait, except the water was 50 feet (15 m) higher. There was also a narrower, shallower channel Little Traverse Bay to Huron basin. The outlet of the lakes, however, was eastward from the northeast angle of Georgian Bay.
