Potato Creek State Park is an Indiana state park located in north-central part of the U.S. state of Indiana about 12 miles (19 km) southwest of South Bend.Potato Creek is open year-round and supports various activities and facilities, including fishing, hiking, camping and mountain biking.
The lake is impounded by Deam Lake Dam which is an earthen dam that is 59 feet (18 m) high and 1,200 feet (370 m) long. [4] Deam Lake is open for fishing, swimming and boating. Boats are limited to electric motors. Kayaks, canoes and other human powered boats are permitted. Jet-skis are not allowed in the lake. [5]
According to its website, the Lake Holiday area now "covers 750 acres, has 780 property owners, 369 homes, and 1,296 privately owned lots. The lake itself covers 150 acres and has an average depth of 10 feet with depths up to 20 feet near the dam. There are many miles of shoreline along the lake and approximately 16 miles of roadway." The main campground offers several waterfront campsites. The other campground is west of the lake and is designed for larger recreational vehicles. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has announced plans to drain the lake in the fall of 2008 in order to repair the dam and to eradicate gizzard shad which are detrimental to the fishery.
