For 1976, Lincoln-Mercury introduced optional appearance packages, marketed as the "Designer Series", with flourishes by notable fashion designers (Bill Blass, Givenchy, and Pucci, and the famed jeweler Cartier. Each package featured an individually coordinated exterior and interior color combination with specific trim and interior fabrics.
The Luxury Group option (introduced in 1973) was a higher-trim version of the Mark IV, offering color-coordinated exterior, vinyl roof, and interior; the color offerings were revised yearly. In what would become a long-running tradition for the Mark Series (and later Lincoln), the Designer Edition series was introduced in 1976.
From 1973 to 1981, Lincoln offered the Luxury Group option for Mark-series buyers, allowing a customer to select cloth or leather/vinyl interior trim, one to four exterior paint colors, landau or full-length vinyl or painted metal roof, bodyside molding (otherwise black) decklid paint stripe, wheels or wheel covers and black or whitewall tires.
