Calcasieu Parish was created in 1840 from the Parish of Saint Landry. The new parish was the largest in the state, larger than either of the two smallest states, Delaware and Rhode Island . [ 3 ] This size, which ultimately was divided into five parishes, led to the parish's nickname "Imperial Calcasieu."
The Church of the Good Shepherd is an historic Episcopal church building located at 715 Kirkman Street in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States.Designed by noted Dallas architect C.W. Bulger in the Gothic Revival style of architecture, it was built of stone in 1896.

The first official parish records began in May 1939. Earlier records were kept in Jennings, beginning in 1892, in Welsh from 1904 and Iowa from 1930. In 1950 the Rev. Daniel Habetz succeeded Father Cramers as pastor, and one of his first projects was the construction of St. Daniel Chapel in Hayes, on property donated by Mr. and Mrs. Felix Hebert.
