National Universities (국립대학교) in South Korea were established by the South Korean government to provide higher education for aiding the development of the country. Among all the universities in Korea, the most prestigious are KAIST and Seoul National University.

The QS World University Rankings are a ranking of the world's top universities produced by Quacquarelli Symonds published annually since 2004. In 2024, they ranked 1500 universities, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Harvard University and University of Cambridge taking the top 5 spots. [15]
In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world university rankings (2023), SKKU is ranked 99th globally, and 36th in Asia. [29] In the Times Higher Education 2023 world university rankings, SKKU is ranked 170th internationally. [30] In the Financial Times rankings, SKK GSB's MBA ranks 82nd worldwide, 15th in Asia, and first in Korea. [31]
The Flagship National Universities (Korea NU 10, Korean: 거점국립대학교, Hanja: 據點國立大學校, literally: national universities designed as provincial centres) is a collective term referring to ten universities in South Korea that have joined the "Presidential Council of the Korean Flagship National Universities".
