The Chaserider brand name, which refers to Cannock Chase, was first used by Midland Red from 1977 [2] until 1992.. During November 2020, Centrebus Group subsidiary D&G Bus announced they would be taking over the Cannock depot of Arriva Midlands from the end of January 2021 with operations in Cannock and Stafford running under the revived Chaserider brand.

D&G Bus was formed by David Reeves and Gerald Henderson in April 1998 initially operating four buses on two routes under contract to Stoke-on-Trent City Council. It expanded with both route and school services in Cheshire and Staffordshire with 16 buses by the end of 1998. In April 2005 D&G Bus purchased Wednesfield based Midland.

In February 2022, Chaserider announced that it would withdraw the Saturday service and some late afternoon journeys due to low passenger numbers, starting on 20 February. [2] [3] [4] The route was later proposed for complete withdrawal, however, in May 2022 it was announced that it would be retained.
In 2018 the Cannock depot began closing entirely on Sundays due to county council subsidy cuts, leaving Cannock without buses, with the Cannock depot being sold to D&G bus in January 2021. In 2023, Arriva announced that it planned to close the Oswestry depot as a result of low patronage and financial difficulties following the Covid-19 pandemic.
At one stage three Eastern Coach Works bodied Bristol RE buses were operated. In the early days of bus service operation around 1987 coaches would sometimes be used on bus services, for example AEC Reliances and Bristol LHSs. In June 2023, Rotala reversed the decision to create a multi-operator day ticket with Select Bus Services and Chaserider as part of the Diamond East Midlands Rebranding. [14] Following this in January 2024, they also withdrew from accepting Staffordshire Knot tickets on the majority of routes, citing its "impact on commercial viability". [15]
