In 1964 the Texas Department of Public Safety chartered the City of Waco, Texas, to construct and operate the official museum of the Texas Rangers. Gillett retired from ranching in 1923, leasing his ranch to his son Milton, and moved to Marfa, Texas. In 1921, Gillett published his memoirs, Six years with the Texas Rangers, which has remained in print since. He died of heart failure on June 11, 1937, and is buried in the Marfa cemetery.

Crowder served in the Marine Corps from 1921 to 1925. After leaving the Marines he joined the Dallas Police Department as a motorcycle officer in 1925. In 1930 he transferred to the Texas Highway Department and in 1937 received his Ranger commission and served in Company B.
