The Letter People was a children's public television show first airing in 1974. Meant to teach letter sounds to beginning readers, it anthropomorphized the letters of the alphabet into 26 primitive puppets, whose personalities derived only from words that started with the letter they represented.
What is The Letter People? An educational program created by Elayne Reiss-Weimann and Rita Friedman which used fictional characters to represent each letter of the alphabet. The program was designed to teach reading skills in kindergarten and 1st grade in the late 1960s and was most popular in the 1970s and 80s.
Nope, every week the kindergarten teacher would introduce a new letter character that included a song, blow up doll, and then we colored the character. There were probably other activities we did, but those were the highlights.
That's more a '70s/'80s thing, the Letter People started in the early '70s and that style in general still carried on into the early '80s. The late '80s/early '90s was more of the day-glo and errant geometry you'd see on the Trapper Keepers that didn't have bitchin' Lamborghinis.
