The Irish National Sailing and Powerboat School is based on the West Pier, Dun Laoghaire, in County Dublin. Since our establishment in 1978, we have provided sailing and powerboat training to approximately 170,000 trainees.

The course covers the RYA Competent Crew syllabus. Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails. Sail handling. Ropework. Safety on board. Personal safety equipment. Man overboard. Emergency equipment. Manners and customs.
Our Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses are designed to refine and build upon previously sailing experience with a view of crewing or skippering your own boat one day! Please note that these courses are run in conjunction and as a result share a booking page.
Day Skipper. Learn to take full responsibility for the yacht and its crew. You will skipper passages with the instructor on hand to give advice and encouragement while ensuring your safety. Experience being in charge, taking credit when it all goes well and being responsible when it doesn’t.
Get Kayaking in Dun Laoghaire Harbour! Kayak Rental – inclusive of wetsuit and buoyancy aid – €30 per person for 2 hours. Single and double kayaks are available.
Dinghy Instructor Course. The course runs from 9am until at least 5pm on the following dates: Course 1: Monday 28th October to Friday 1st November. The course fees are €475. Pre-requisites: Minimum age is 17. Irish Sailing SBSS Pre-entry Assessment.
