The Little Kern River is a 24.4-mile-long (39.3 km) [2] major tributary of the upper Kern River in the Sequoia National Forest, in the southern Sierra Nevada, California. It is one of three streams, along with Volcano Creek and Golden Trout Creek , that harbor beautiful golden trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss aguabonita ).
Camp Okihi is a developed camp primarily used by sanctioned Kern County youth and school groups. The camp is located north of the Kern River. Since there is no bridge across the Kern River within the Kern River County Park, the camp is relatively isolated. The camp contains two reservable group camping areas for up to 100 people each.

The camp was originally named Camp Huntington, with 39 Boy Scouts attending the first weekly session. [4] By the mid-1990s, the camp was hosting over 3,000 Scouts each summer. [5] In September, 2020, Camp Kern was fully engulfed in the Creek Fire. Most of the camp's structures suffered serious damage or were completely destroyed. [6] [7]
The Kern River watershed is the native range of California's State Freshwater Fish, California golden trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss aguabonita), which are native to the Kern River tributaries South Fork Kern River and Golden Trout Creek, [30] and the latter's tributary, Volcano Creek. [31]
A bike path starts on the east side, and travels through the Kern River County Park, ending at the Kern River Golf Course. There are also two 18-hole disk golf courses. Many of the roads in the park are named after nearby geographic features. For example, River Road is near the Kern River, and Lake Street is near the boating lake.
