The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) was founded in 1996 and began play in 1997. [1] The WNBA has kept a record of its win–loss statistics since its inception. There are currently 12 teams that play in the WNBA, and there are also six defunct WNBA teams accounted for in the league's win–loss records.
The Comets were one of the founding teams in the WNBA. Their first four seasons were marked by dominant success in the league, as they became the WNBA's first dynasty. [5] They capped off the league's inaugural season in 1997 with a win over the New York Liberty in the WNBA championship game to win the WNBA's first championship.
Clark, the team’s No. 17 pick in 2010, stuck on the Storm roster in her third season out of college, became a lockdown two-time All-WNBA defender and won two championships with Seattle.
