William Neil built the hotels after arriving in the city in 1818, and having operated a tavern in the location from 1822 to 1839. [1] Neil and his wife Hannah also became known for his stagecoach company, her mission for orphaned children, and their farm that became the Ohio State University campus around 1870. [4]
The 1927 building subsequently held Neil Avenue Elementary, from 1956 to 1975. It then held Columbus City Schools administrative offices, and later sat vacant for years. Around 2019, a $6.1-million renovation plan was announced, for the site to hold a mix of businesses.
The majority of the mansion was built around the mid-1850s for M.L. Neville, who purchased the property in an 1855 sheriff's sale for $5,310. In 1857, it was rented out to the state of Ohio, when it became the first home to the Ohio Asylum for the Education of Idiotic and Imbecile Youth (known today as the Columbus Developmental Center). Vincent Neil Wharton (born February 8, 1961) [1] is an American musician. He is the lead vocalist of heavy metal band Mötley Crüe, which he fronted from their 1981 formation until his departure in 1992. Neil reunited with the band in 1996 and continued with them until the band's 2015 retirement, and again from the band's 2018 reunion onwards.
Neil wed his second wife, mud wrestler and model Sharise Ruddell, in April 1987, with their daughter Skylar Lynnae Neil being born March 26, 1991. The couple divorced in 1993.
