The 6th South African Grand Prix was a motor race, run to Formula Libre rules, held on 1 January 1960 in East London. [1] The race was run over 60 laps of the circuit, and was won by Belgian driver Paul Frère , his second Grand Prix victory following the 1952 Grand Prix des Frontières .
In the early 1950s his "Ballance of the Night" hosted celebrities on KNX in Los Angeles. [3] Ballance was the evening Top 40 personality in the late 1950s to early '60s on #1-rated KFWB in Los Angeles. In 1971, Ballance’s “Feminine Forum” radio show was launched on KGBS in L.A.
The 5th Cape Grand Prix was a motor race, run to South African Formula One-style rules, held on 2 January 1962 at Killarney Motor Racing Complex, Cape Town, South Africa. The race was run over 60 laps of the circuit, and was won by British driver Trevor Taylor , in his Lotus 21 .
