The alternative to run it on an headless device is running it inside a docker/VM but it can be a bit harder. It has most of Calibre's options (including virtual libraries and different libraries if memory serves) Calibre Web is a web server that implement some of the most important Calibre features, but not all.
+Kavita, for now, is purely based on parsing filenames (for files without metadata) and supports internal comicinfo.xml and epub internal metadata. Supports cbz/cbr (no SolidRar or Rar5), epub (fully), pdf (no metadata). Starts to have a decent support for metadata overall, even if less advanced than Komga (it's younger).
Kavita is a great app, but it seems Readarr can't fill in missing metadata automatically without a Calibre content server running. I did not see anything in the documentation about just providing the Calibre binary to it and allowing it to do the lookup on specific books without using the database. That's the point I'm at now, sadly Kavita ...
Lighting fast with a slick design, Kavita is a rocket fueled self-hosted digital library which supports a vast array of file formats. Install to start reading and share your server with your friends.
Make sure the embedded metadata in the book is correct, Kavita will use metadata to detect series if it's available. Okay, thanks. Kavita is a fast, all in one reading server which supports comics, manga, and books out of the box, making it easy to share your entire collection with friends and family. Kavita supports a wide range of formats (including epub and pdf), has responsive built-in readers, and offers OPDS-PS support for external reader support.
Using OPDS, the depth of the directory structure was deeper in Kavita. For instance, in the Thor example above, would have to go Thor > Volume 1 > Chapter 1 > Issue. This last file was a single file in a single folder. On Komga, you would click Thor and it would list all the issues, and you could just click on the one you wanted.

v0.7.4 - Kavita+ Launch. This release is special to me because it is the launch of Kavita+, a subscription service which adds bonus features to the base Kavita, that otherwise wouldn't be feasible to include. Please note, this service is offered by me (majora2007), who is the main developer of Kavita. Kavita+ will not start gate keeping ...
