Ross S. Bagdasarian [a] (/ b æ ɡ d ə ˈ s ɛər i ə n /; January 27, 1919 – January 16, 1972), known professionally by his stage name David "Dave" Seville, [3] was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor best known for creating the cartoon band Alvin and the Chipmunks.
David "Dave" Seville is a fictional character, the adoptive father and producer and manager of the fictional singing group Alvin and the Chipmunks.The character was created by Ross Bagdasarian, who had used the name "David Seville" as his stage name prior to the creation of the Chipmunks, while writing and recording novelty records in the 1950s. Bagdasarian was born in Fresno, California in 1949, [4] the son of Armenian-American parents Armenuhi Bagdasarian (née Kulhanjian) and Ross Bagdasarian (1919–1972). As a child, he worked with his father on The Alvin Show by helping edit and coordinate the soundtracks and falsetto voice-overs of the Chipmunks.
