In 2010, EWU won the NCAA Division I FCS national championship, EWU's first at the Division I level for any sport. In 1973, the student body voted to make Eastern's mascot the Eagles.
Eastern Washington began Division I play in 1982. They have qualified for the NCAA Division I Tournament twice: in 1987 after winning the Mountain West Athletic Conference (MWAC) tournament, and in 2024 after winning the Big Sky regular season and tournament titles.

Eastern Washington University Press (EWU Press) was a publishing house formed in the 1970s [1] that was a part of Eastern Washington University.The press specialized in scholarly works about Asia and the environment; it also released works of fiction and translation of literature, [2] including works by poets and writers such as Robert Bly, Carolyn Kizer, Dorianne Laux, and Joseph Millar.
