The WTA Doubles Championships is a defunct WTA Tour affiliated tennis tournament for doubles, played from 1975 to 1997. It was held on indoor carpet courts from 1975 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1990, and on outdoor clay courts in 1982 and from 1991 to 1997. [1] [2]
These tables present the number of singles (S) and doubles (D) titles won by each player and each nation during the season. The players/nations are sorted by: 1) total number of titles (a doubles title won by two players representing the same nation counts as only one win for the nation); 2) a singles > doubles hierarchy; 3) alphabetical order (by family names for players).
The doubles event was held in various locations; Newport (1881–1914), Forest Hills (1915–1916, 1942–1945, 1968–1977), Longwood (1917–1933, 1935–1941, 1946–1967) and Germantown, Philadelphia (1934) before it settled in 1978 at the USTA National Tennis Center, now the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in New York City.

In January 1938, Tennis for Girls Round's second instructional book, was published. [42] In August 1938, Round presented a trophy that she had donated to the winner of the women's singles of the Pwllheli tennis tournament. [53]
