On 13 October 2024, the club achieved a first-ever promotion to the Serie A after a 2–0 win over San Antonio , [4] and lifted the trophy three days later, after a 5–2 routing of 9 de Octubre. [5] On 7 November 2024, it was announced that Cuniburo will change its name to Vinotinto Ecuador starting from this season. [6]
The season runs from February to December in two stages. For sponsorship reasons, it is known as the LigaPro Banco Pichincha Pymes. Serie B has been in place since 1971 and has been held on a yearly basis since (except 1973 and 1983–88), often holding two tournaments a year.
