Lower Tyrone Township is a township in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States.The population was 1,069 at the time of the 2020 census. [2]Named after County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, it is the site of Linden Hall, an early 20th-century mansion and resort which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [3]
The Little Juniata River breaks through the mountain ridge at Tyrone; south of the river, the ridge is known as Brush Mountain. Interstate 99/U.S. Route 220 runs along the northwestern slope of the ridge, with access to the township from exits 45, 48, and 52.
In the township the population was spread out, with 28.1% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 106.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.1 males.
It is part of the Altoona, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named after County Tyrone in Ireland.
