The Jeep Cherokee (XJ) is a sport utility vehicle manufactured and marketed across a single generation by Jeep in the United States from 1983 (model year 1984) through 2001 — and globally through 2014. It was available in two- or four-door, five-passenger, front-engine, rear- or four-wheel drive configurations.

The Jeep Cherokee is a line of sport utility vehicles (SUV) manufactured and marketed by Jeep over five generations. Marketed initially as a variant of the Jeep Wagoneer (SJ) , the Cherokee has evolved from a full-size SUV to one of the first compact SUVs and into its last generation as a crossover SUV .
During this period Jeep introduced the XJ Cherokee, its first unibody SUV; and global sales topped 200,000 for the first time in 1985. [48] However, the replacement of the CJ Jeeps by the new Wrangler line in 1986 marked the start of a different era.

Renix Electronique S.A. was established in 1981 as a joint venture by Renault with 51% interest and Bendix with 49% that was headquartered in Toulouse. [1] Renix Corporation of America was the North American subsidiary of Renix Electronique to provide sales, logistics, engineering, and quality support to American Motors.
The plant began producing Jeep vehicles in the 1940s. Chrysler also renamed this factory to the Toledo Assembly Plant after acquiring AMC in 1987. Basic assembly and painting of the Jeep Cherokee (1983 through 2000) and building bodies and painting of the Jeep Wrangler by Chrysler were at the Parkway plant until 2006, when it was closed.
