Derry is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Derry in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The CDP comprises the urban center of the town, as well as the village of East Derry and connected suburban areas. The population of the CDP was 22,879 at the 2020 census, [2] out of 34,317 in the entire town.
The area was first settled by Scots-Irish families in 1719 as part of the town of Londonderry, as were present-day Windham and portions of Manchester, Salem and Hudson.The town of Derry was formed in 1827 from the eastern portion of Londonderry and was named, like Londonderry, after the city of Derry in Ireland, [4] the Irish word Doire meaning "oak grove".

Traditionally, the Waterside ends at the Caw roundabout near the Foyle Bridge. Areas such as Eglinton and Limavady are not part of the Waterside.
The village center constitutes the East Derry Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located on a hill close to the geographic center of the town of Derry along East Derry Road, approximately 2 miles (3 km) east of Derry's downtown. East Derry has a separate ZIP code (03041) from the rest of the town of Derry.
