Carmel Valley vineyard. The very first irrigation system to be implemented in a valley vineyard took place in Monterey County in the early 1960s. The lack of annual rainfall made it necessary to have a predictable supply of water to the grapevines to ensure that they would thrive and produce a quality harvest with higher yields per acre.
Talbott sources from two vineyards, Diamond T and Sleepy Hollow. The Diamond T Vineyard was planted by the Talbotts in 1982 with chardonnay on a mountaintop in Carmel Valley. [2] Sleepy Hollow was first planted in 1972 in the Santa Lucia Highlands, and has a mix of pinot noir and chardonnay. [3]

Holman Ranch Tasting Room is at West Carmel Valley Road. In 2006, the Holman Ranch was purchased by Thomas and Jarman Lowder. They restored the hacienda, expanded the guest amenities, and planted 18 acres (7.3 ha) of vineyards for Pinot noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot gris. In 2012, an underground wine cave was built.

After selling fruit for two vintages to Mount Eden Vineyards in Saratoga, Kathryn established her brand and winery in 1979. [2] Her adviser and first winemaker was Bill Anderson, who went on to be the longstanding winemaker at Chateau Julien in Carmel Valley AVA. From 1979 until 1988 Kathryn's winery produced only Estate Cabernet.
