California Points of Historical Interest are sites, buildings, features, or events that are of local significance to a county or city's history. Points of Historical Interest designated after December 1997 are listed in the California Register of Historical Resources .

A statue of Christopher Columbus by Mario Zamora was installed in Chula Vista, California's formerly named Discovery Park, in the United States. The statue has been vandalized multiple times. The statue was created to commemorate the 400th anniversary, in 1892, of Columbus's arrival in the Americas. It was unveiled in Central Park on May 12, 1894. [3] [4] In August 2017, the statue was vandalized with red paint and graffiti reading "Hate will not be tolerated" and '#somethingscoming". The statue was restored shortly thereafter. [5]
