Federal GMM 168gr is good practice ammo. A lot of depts use it as duty ammo for snipers as well, but the terminal ballistics of hornady tap amax is much better, and just as accurate. If you go out and get quotes for a dept price on bulk orders, the price is much better.
I use 2 loads. 185 juggs do well at longer distances ("long" for a short barrel 308). Then I have a load for a Hornady 155 BTHP I use most often at short distances including the 300m range 5 min from my house. I tuned the velocity of the 155 load so the drop matches the 185's to 400m.
