The Roanoke Red Sox was a primary name of the minor league baseball teams based in Roanoke, Virginia. Between 1894 and 1953, Roanoke teams played as members of the Virginia League (1894–1896, 1906–1914, 1939–1942) and Piedmont League (1943–1953), winning five league championships and one pennant.

Weems grew up in Detroit, Michigan and attended New Haven High School in New Haven, Michigan, where he was a four-year starter on the basketball team. [1] As a freshman in 2015–16, he started in all 25 games and averaged 16 points, 10.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 4 steals and 1.8 blocks to help his team to a 22–3 record, a regional championship and the state Class B quarterfinals.
