Maquoketa (/ m ə ˈ k oʊ k ɪ t ə /) is a city in Jackson County, Iowa, United States. Located on the Maquoketa River, it is the county seat of Jackson County. [4] U.S. Route 61 adjoins the city, which therefore hosts traffic between Dubuque and the Quad Cities. Iowa Highways 62 and 64 also pass through the city.
He soon returned to Maquoketa with his wife and established its first post office in 1842. In 1851 he was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives from the 19th district, which constituted Jackson and Jones counties, to replace Col. Richard B. Wyckoff .

The Maquoketa Community School District is a rural public school district based in Maquoketa, Iowa. The district is mainly in Jackson County , with small areas in Clinton , and Dubuque counties. The district serves the cities of Maquoketa, Baldwin , Zwingle , and surrounding rural areas.
The historic district is primarily a residential area that was built during Maquoketa's "Boom Years" (1873-1899) and the "Comfortable Years" (1900-1922). The first house in the district was built in 1863 and the last in 1914. This is where many of the city's business and professional leaders choose to build their houses.
Mitchell-Maskrey Mill is a historic building located in Maquoketa, Iowa, United States. John Goodenow started the first milling operation in the Maquoketa area in 1838. He sold it to Joseph McCloy who established a larger operation along Mill Creek south of town in 1842. Edward Maskry leased this operation in 1865.
