Ghirri was born in Scandiano [6] [7] near Reggio Emilia, Italy, on 5 January 1943.. He started his career in the 1970s. Influenced by conceptual art, he created his first two series, Atlante (1973) and Kodachrome (1978), [3] [6] where his cropped images of the landscape were presented with a deadpan, often ironic wit and a continuous anthropological engagement with his surroundings.
In 1907 he exhibited landscapes of Livorno at the Italian Divisionist Exposition, organized at the Grubicy Gallery in Paris, and in 1909 participated in the Paris Salon d'Automme with his fellow Tuscans, Lloyd and Plinio Nomellini. In 1911 he exhibited at the Mostra di Arte Libera in Milan.

Leopoldo Metlicovitz (17 July 1868 – 19 October 1944) was an Italian painter, illustrator and poster designer. Metlicovitz in 1900. Together with Leonetto Cappiello, Adolf Hohenstein, Giovanni Maria Mataloni and Marcello Dudovich, he is considered one of the fathers of modern Italian poster art.
Many of his Amalfi landscapes were bought by the Goupil Gallery. Two were displayed at the 1877 Exposition at Naples: Marina di Maiuri and Grotta degli Zingari .
