Saratoga Race Course is a Thoroughbred horse racing track located on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs, New York, United States.Opened in 1863, it is often considered to be the oldest major sporting venue of any kind in the U.S. [2] It is the fourth oldest racetrack after Pleasanton Fairgrounds Racetrack (1858), [3] Freehold Raceway (1854) and Fair Grounds Race Course (1852).
Named for the mythological goddess Diana, the race is run each year at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Inaugurated in 1939, it is open to fillies and mares age three and up willing to race the one and one-eighth miles on the turf. The race is a Grade I with a current purse of $500,000. It became a Grade I race in 2003.

It currently carries a purse of $500,000. Prior to 1971, the race was 1 mile in length. For 1971 only, the distance was decreased to 7 furlongs.
