Home use of this Snellen eye chart will help you determine the clarity of your distance vision. This can be useful to screen children for nearsightedness, which causes blurry distance vision. The chart also can help you determine if you meet the legal visual acuity requirement for a valid driver’s license (20/40 in most states).
Use the chart to the left to estimate your visual acuity. Use a ruler to measure in centimeters the blue bar at the top of the chart. Using the measured number, move the same number of feet away from your computer. For example, if the blue bar measures 5 centimeters, you need to stand 5 feet away.

Schedule an eye checkup with a doctor if you're unsure whether your vision is sufficient to pass or if you wish to enhance your vision measurement.
Review the Vision Conditions and Actions Chart to learn more about the range of severity, functional impairments, stability of each condition, and actions taken by DMV, including restrictions that may need to be imposed on the driving privilege.
