Free Radio was a regional group of Independent Local Radio stations in the West Midlands, owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Hits Radio network. The Free Radio brand name was replaced by localised versions of Hits Radio on 17 April 2024.
On 7 January 2019, Free 80s was replaced by Absolute Classic Rock on 990, 1017 and 1152 kHz and on DAB in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Shropshire. BBC Radio WM is the BBC's local radio station serving the West Midlands. It broadcasts on FM , DAB , digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios at The Mailbox in Birmingham . According to RAJAR , the station has a weekly audience of 193,000 listeners and a 2.2% share as of December 2023.
