Aug. 10—BATESVILLE — Four exceptional Southeastern Indiana YMCA staff members were presented with the YMCA Youth Service Award this week: Emi Lopez, Sydney Massey, Carly Sloan and Kylee Starost.
One of the staff members most involved with the growth of the camp is Steve Heming whose first experience with the camp came in 1964 at age 10. He continued to return to Wanakita, first as a camper and later as a counsellor and became the general manager during the 1980s. [5] Heming retired in 2010 and passed on his position to Andy Gruppe. [8]
