Iblis (Arabic: إِبْلِيسْ, romanized: Iblīs), [1] alternatively known as Eblīs, [2] is the leader of the devils (shayāṭīn) in Islam.According to the Quran, Iblis was thrown out of heaven after refusing to prostrate himself before Adam.
It occurs historically in many contexts and cultures, and is given many different names—Satan (Judaism), Lucifer (Christianity), Beelzebub (Judeo-Christian), Mephistopheles (German), Iblis (Islam)—and attributes: it is portrayed as blue, black, or red; it is portrayed as having horns on its head, and without horns, and so on.
In contrast to Christianity, Satan promises immortality or to "become like angel" by approaching the tree. The reference to "angels" might be an interpretation of the Biblical ʾĔlōhīm.
