This is a list of universities in Cambodia. This is the list of universities in Cambodia according to the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport . The Cambodian formal education system ceased to exist and many educated people fled the country or died during the Khmer Rouge era (1975–1979).
During this period, Phnom Penh University and all other educational institutions in Cambodia were closed down. Under this regime an education was perceived as a dangerous asset. Hence, the educated were targeted, and most of the university's teachers and students were killed. The campus was abandoned and remained deserted for almost five years.
The vision for AUPP originated with Dr. Chea Vandeth along with Dr. Kem Reat Viseth, the former Director of the School of Graduate Studies of the National School of Management, and Dr. Kenneth Dunn, a Fulbright Scholar to Cambodia, who together conceptualized a new university that would embody international best practices and offer academic programs of the highest quality.

A.U. offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs: Associate, Bachelor and Master. A.U. is one of the first universities in Siem Reap to fully follow the ACC's standards for Diploma (2-3/4-5/6-7); the model is widely used in most of the universities in Cambodia, especially in the health section.

RULE is the first higher education institution in Cambodia. It was founded in 1948 as the National Institute of Law, Politics and Economics. In 1957 the institute became the faculty by Royal Decree. In 2003 the Faculty of Law and Economics was reorganized as a university, under the name of Royal University of Law and Economics.
