Break the Bank is an American game show created by Jack Barry and Dan Enright and produced by their production company, Barry & Enright Productions.It was the first game show packaged by Barry and Enright as a tandem since their fall from grace following the 1950s quiz show scandals.
Break the Bank was the first game show produced by Kline's production company Kline & Friends. Kline and many of the show's production staff members had previously worked for Barry & Enright Productions , which had seen significant changes made after company founder Jack Barry died in 1984.
The record bank win was $9,020 until Break the $250,000 Bank was created in response to The $64,000 Question and other big-money shows. However, that version ran for only three months (October 9, 1956, to January 15, 1957), and no contestants won any more than $60,000 (won by dentist Harry Duncan).
