He is best known as the captain of the 1980 Winter Olympics United States national team that defeated the Soviet Union in the famous "Miracle on Ice" game, in which he scored the game-winning goal.
Jon Francis "Jack" Hughes (born July 20, 1957) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who played 46 games in the National Hockey League for the Colorado Rockies. He played with the American national team during the 1979–80 season, but was the last player cut before they played at the Olympics.
